How to Deploy TBO and SBO in 6.5

I am using the examples in DFC Development Guide 6 to create my first TBO and SBO. I have the created the 4 jar files as mentioned in the documentation.

Next step is to use DAB to deploy it. I don't think that comes as part of development version. Composer replaced DAB...correct???

I am using the development version of the Content Server and Composer. Can someone provide the steps or refer me to the reference document so I can deploy the TBO and SBO.

In composer you need to create one JarDef artifact for each jar. Then add the .jar file to it. Don't forget to choose if it's and interface or implementation jar as that will have an impact later. Then, for each TBO or SBO you create a Module with the appropriate name (name of the type for the TBO and any name for the SBO). It's in the module editor that you choose from the jardefs you have just created (were the "interface" or "implementation" matters). After this you "just" need to install the project in the server. You should also check the composer manual. It shows the individual steps.

Hi,

I created a simple TBO using composer...

I deployed the app and I can see that my TBO is there on the server.....When I try to create the document it throws this error....

In your Composer project, did you set properly which one is the implementation and which is the interface class of the TBO module ?

you ALWAYS need an interface to be implemented by your TBO. That's most likely your problem

By interface, I'm not talking about User Interface, I'm talking about an Interface class

It is not a requirement to have a interface jar for TBO or any other modules. From the error stack, it looks like the jar file could be packaged incorrectly.

Is the TBO's class name suppose to be Services.bin.classes.com.documentum.tutorial.BfExampleOneTbo or com.documentum.tutorial.BfExampleOneTbo? I would imagine it to be the latter.

If you check the "Path" column if you open the jar file from winzip, for example, it should reflect the package name. For example if the class is

com.documentum.tutorial.BfExampleOneTbo , the Path should be "com\documentum\tutorial". From the error stack it looks like the Path is something like "Services\bin\classes\com\documentum\tutorial" instead. This is caused by creating the jar file with the "Services" folder as the root folder.

That's the problem. As you can see in the attached images, I created the files under src folder com/documentum/tutorial and my classes are being put under Web Services/bin/classes/com/documentum/tutorial.

When I create the jar file, I have to navigate this path....(Web Services/bin/classes/com/documentum/tutorial.)

How can I fix this problem?

When exporting the JAR, you can try checking "export all output folders for checked projects", the path should come out properly. The focus would be to set up the output folders to suit your scenario.

Any luck with getting your TBO to work? Your jar seems to packaged with the correct path. However, it seems to have both interface and implementation classes all packaged into the same jar. This jar also have both TBO and SBO classes packaged together. These are not recommended and could cause classloading issues down the road. Each TBO or SBO should have their implementation and interface separated out into different jar files. In this case, there should be at least 4 separate jar files.

Are you using DAB or Composer to deploy the TBO?

To check if the TBO is deployed properly:

> select object_name from dmc_jar where folder ('/System/Modules/TBO/<TBOName>', descend)

You should see all your jar files for the TBO here.

then check if the TBO is downloaded to the bof cache properly:

BOF cache is under the documentum data directory, typically:

C:\Documentum\cache\<dfcVersion>\bof\<docbaseName>

If your dfc.properites dfc.cache.append.name=true, then the jar name in the BOF cache will have as the suffix the original name of the jar, otherwise, the jar will be named with the object Id of the dmc_jar.

If all of these looks OK to you, perhaps try writing a small java program to simply invoke this TBO. For example,

session.newObject("<tboName>")

would trigger your TBO.

I am seeing a strange error from my TBO's as well. This happens randomly as well. We are using DCTM 6.0.

My TBO automatically starts a workflow along with storing the document in the logic. The error we saw twice and we are unable to reproduce is

com.documentum.thirdparty.javaassist.NotFoundException:org.mdacc.omcr.tbo.interfaces.IDfOmcrPatient

Attached is the screen shot of the error..IDfOmcrPatient is a interface class with no business logic in the interface class itself. It is part of a jar file that is deployed to a TBO.

We had to restart the method server to clear this error.

We discovered this error when 69 workflows paused on 69 docuemnts just stored. TBO implementation class has the logic to automatically kick off a workflow.
