CLT for modifying branch description
paul_valentine
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if there is a CLT which will allow me to modify the branch description field? I am using iwmkbr to create the branch with a description initially, but I want a user to have the ability to modify the branch description via a web interface later.
I've searched through the manuals and the forums, but to no avail. Maybe I'm missing it somehow...
Any assistance is much appreciated.
Regards,
Paul.

Any takers on this? Has anyone tried anything like this before?
I was thinking of creating a new branch (with the new description), copying across the workareas from the old branch, deleting the old branch and renaming the new branch to the old.. but is it possible to maintain the history of each file?

You're asking two different questions here.
1) a CLT to modify the description associated with an existing branch
2) a method for preserving the history of each file when you do some sort of swap between an existing and new branch.
I'm not sure about '1' - for '2' I suggest you look at iwmigrate and consider the possibility of migrating the existing branch's content to its own [temporary] store, then do your branch swapping in the default store, and then migrate the content back from the new [temporary] store back into the default store. This should allow you to preserve file history, time-stamps, etc.

Thanks - that's probably the route I will take.
I was just hoping to avoid a (slightly) non-trivial solution to something as trivial as changing the description of a branch.
Thanks for your help.
