iwmigrate log location

Hi,
I am trying to get the iwmigrate into a logfile.

/InterWoven/iw-home/bin/iwmigrate -m /sourceTS/iwmnt -o /opt/iwstore/iw-store/NewStore -b //sourceTS/default/main > /tmp/migrate.log 2 &>1
it just hangs nothing is going to the log file. Without the log file option it is giving the correct output.

My doubt is it waiting for the reply y or n ? how do I pass the parameter 'y' and have the logfile created ?

Does your terminal client support logging?

You can use that instead when you need to run an interactive program.

That way you've captured everything you did as well.

Since you appear to be running on Unix, use the script command. script is your friend.

Instead of what you have, run your command like this:

script tmp/migrate.log
/InterWoven/iw-home/bin/iwmigrate -m /sourceTS/iwmnt -o /opt/iwstore/iw-store/NewStore -b //sourceTS/default/main

That way, you'll see the interaction on the screen, as well as capture everything to /tmp/iwmigrate.log
Once you're done with the iwmigrate, just remember to use ^d to exit the shell that script created for you.

BTW can I run this iwmigrate when the source teamsite is running. Will it effect the users on the source teamsite ?

If I remember correctly, the source TeamSite HAS to be running in order for iwmigrate to work. However, it's been a while, so I could be off on that.

I don't think it should have a serious impact on users. However, at some point, you're going to want to keep users off of the system for a "final pass" to get all of the latest content migrated over, without them changing it on you. But you shouldn't need to worry about that for the initial pass, where you're just getting all of the historical data, which can take a long time.

I ran the following command:
script /tmp/migrate.log /u02/InterWoven/iw-home/bin/iwmigrate -m /sourceTS/iwmnt -o /u02/iwstore/iw-store/other -b //sourceTS/other/main/ELMS

But it doing nothing, just creates a "0" byte file /tmp/migrate.log

If I run the iwmigrate directly it gives the usual output.

I did an initial pass and it created temp_workarea. Now when I am trying to do a final pass with iwmigrate -c option but it does not work.
Once I have the temp_workarea, what are the steps to do the final pass. Please help - Thanks

No, that's two commands.

Command 1:

script /tmp/migrate.log </script>

Command 2
/u02/InterWoven/iw-home/bin/iwmigrate -m /sourceTS/iwmnt -o /u02/iwstore/iw-store/other -b //sourceTS/other/main/ELMS

Third thing to do: type Control-D (^D) to exit the shell.

I tend to just use redirection - as long as you use the '-g' flag on the command line you can use the redicetion that was originally mentioned (e.g. shell: 2>&1 > some_log_file -or- cshell: >& some_log_file) and it should work just fine.

In regard to subsequent migrations - you need to remember that migrations (like conversions) are handled at the *edition* level - if you don't cut new editions on the source side there will be nothing new to migrate to the target side.
