copy directories, preserving attributes

Hi,
We have a multi-lingual site. I want to copy content from the directory 'abc_en' to the directory 'xyz_en'. The directory 'abc_en' is the main directory with a lot of subdirectories and content under it.
I also want to do a similar thing for my directories under the templatedata directory.
If I do a Copy, it loses all the attributes.
I cannot do a 'Copy To' or iwupdate as the root directories are different.
Is there any way to do the copy, preserving all the extended attributes ?
A custom script to copy things, preserving attributes, can be done. But is there an easier way ? Has anyone encountered this issue. Any suggestions for a custom script would also be appreciated.

I had the need to create a "template" site and give people the ability to copy it (with all it's subdirectories, DCRs and extented attributes) to another directory. I ended up doing an xcopy of the whole template directory and all the templatedata directories. Then a perl script to look at the extented attributes in the template directory and apply them to the new copy (changing the primaryDCR location) and then did the same with each of the DCRs. It took a couple of days to get it 100%.

After I got it to work, I added a custom menu item for my users.

So, I guess the answer I came up with was, nope - write a script.

Have you tried using 'Copy to area' from the 'File' ?

Copy To Area will not work for what was being asked for. It does, as its name somewhat implies, copying of assets from one TeamSite area (workarea, staging, edition) to another TeamSite area (workarea only) - preserving the name of the asset and the directory structure relative to the area.

It does not allow you to copy an asset from one *directory* into another *directory* within the same TeamSite area.

In TeamSite 5.5.x, you should be able to preserve the EA.
