Teamsite 5.5.2 and Windows XP

We're looking at upgrading to Teamsite 5.5.2 and also upgrading desktops to windows XP at some point in the future. I seen a number of compatability matrices some of which suggest the Teamsite 5.5.2 is certified for XP Service Pack 1 and some which do not specifiy any compatability.

I expect that any problems using the two are based around Microsoft removing MSJVM but I can't find anywhere where this is clearly stated. I further assume that if this was the major issue then we could roll out the sun jvm to work round it.

Could anyone point me in the direction of any resources on this issue or perhaps give me a brief overview of any relevant expereince they have had.

I haven't seen any issues between TeamSite 5.5.2 and WXPSP. But then I also don't seem to remember the MSJVM being removed.

My experience is that the MSJVM works better with TeamSite than the Sun JVM, which I think can be a problem if you have other enterprise we apps that require the Sun JVM. Is it only that if you do a clean install of XP SP2 it doesn't come with the MSJVM? In that case I think there are instructions for downloading it somewhere; just add that to the message you send users with the TeamSite URL, instructions for launchpad install, etc.

Other than that, the only thing I could think of would be default security settings in the browser - you might have to configure your TeamSite server as a trusted host somehow.

I should probably have put this in the first post

Win XP base does NOT contain the MSJVM
Win XP SP1 does contain the MSJVM and is the latest SP for XP with MSJVM
Win XP SP1a does NOT contain MSJVM, but is the SAME as Win XP SP1
Win XP SP2 on new install will NOT contain MSJVM, but an upgrade from any previous version will have MSJVM installed and previously installed MSJVM's will remain intact

That sounds right. I think you can find the MSJVM out there somewhere, and add instructions for install if you have XPSP2 to your "welcome to the new TeamSite message", along with any security settings they need to configure in internet options.

We have a problem with SMS wiping out VFE on some clients; I wonder if there might be a similar issue with MSJVM. Since installing VFE requires admin, this is a serious pain. I wonder what level of admin access MSJVM and the required browser config might require.

You will likely have a problem with templating when you upgrade to XP. It is the microsoft Java not the JVM that is the problem. You need the MS JVM for this version of TeamSite( 5.5.2), although interwoven has stated future releases will use Suns.

Be sure to use the latest MS JVM version due to security vulnerabilities in previous versions at : http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/javavm.html)

We came off of Win2k machines and went to XP and needed to do the following on every client machine involved with TeamSite Templating or we got bogus cgi error messages and were unable to use Templating:

(1) Uninstall Java_MICROSOFT

(2) reboot

(3) Then install the latest Microsoft JVM. TeamSite requires MicroSoft's JVM in it's current incantation.

"Product Alert: Windows XP SP1a - October 15, 2003

The recently released service pack update for Microsoft Windows XP SP1a removed from its default installation the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which was used to support Java Applets. Because of this change, new systems with the default Windows XP SP1a installation will experience problems with the Local File Manager Applet (LaunchPad in TeamSite 5.5.2). Similarly, if a Windows XP system has migrated from the Microsoft JVM to the SUN JVM, it will be using an unsupported configuration by TeamSite. Interwoven plans to provide support for the Sun JVM in a future release of TeamSite; however, TeamSite 5.5.2 and TeamSite 6.0 curretnly support ONLY the Microsoft JVM.

TeamSite currently running on systems with the Microsoft JVM will not experience this problem.

All releases of 5.5.2 should be okay with the MS JVM, and generally that
is less buggy than the Sun JVM plug-in on Windows. Support for the
Sun java plug-in was added in later SPs, so just grab the last SP to be
on the safe side. Search this forum if you want details about the bugs
that other people have seen....

As for XP on the desktop, I believe XP SP1 should be ok, again with the
latest TeamSite 5.5.2 SP.

You might want to strongly consider TeamSite 6.x instead of 5.5, as 5.5
will soon end-of-life....
