What makes a file private?

I'm trying to figure out how to programmatically determine if a file is a 'private' file.

I have my autoprivate.cfg set up to mark *.bak, *.class, *.tmp and so on as 'private' files. They show up in the TeamSite GUI as private files like they're supposed to, but they seem to be completey indistinguishable from public files when you are on the filesystem.

I was guessing that TeamSite slapped some sort of external attribute on them to mark them as such, but that ain't the case.

Does anyone know how if there is some property somewhere associated with a file that distinguishes it as 'private'? I would very much like to avoid having to write my own autoprivate.cfg parser that I would use to check the 'privateness' of a filename.

This is a good question. You would think that the iwattrib command would provide some flag that you could check whether a file is private or not, but that doesn't appear to be an option. It would be a great idea to have it be an option.

OK, this may not solve your problem, but I did find one way to determine whther a file is private, however it's a roundabout way. If you run the iwcmp CLT, it will return a code of "p" if a file or directory is private. The drawback is, you have to compare the area in question with some other area, most likely STAGING, to get the output. Plus you have to sift through the various other files that get returned that are marked as different for whatever reason. It would take a simple parse with a regex to go through the results. At least it's something. Check out the iwcmp command in the CLT manual and run it a couple times to see what the output looks like - it's kinda funky.

        -g      get   the private bit.
        -s      set   the private bit.
        The -g flag is the default.
        On GETting the private bit, this program will print
        0 if the bit is clear, 1 if it is set.  GETs will
        return 0 on successful completion.
        The GET operation can only accept one vpath.

All, Thanks to nacks, I was able to write a perl script that prints out the paths to private files and directories. I also put in a ticket with Interwoven a couple weeks ago to inlcude the "List Private Files" as an option in future releases. Support Case #117699. In the mean time, enjoy.
