File Import command in CC
jmcdonald
Using Teamsite 6.1, Windows 2000.
What permission or role is required to do a File/Import command from Content Center Professional? Or perhaps better - what would cause the "Import" function to be disabled?

To import a file into an area, you must have write access to that area. So it should be disabled if, for example, you're looking at STAGING.

Something is amiss then. The user has full access to the directory, is signing in as an editor, but the "Import" function is greyed out. Interestingly enough, when the same user signs in using webdeskpro, they can import.

Is the File > New File menu item also greyed out?

Yes, the first 5 options are all greyed out:
New File
New Form Entry
New Folder
New Edition
Import

Do you have submit.cfg set up ? who is given ownership of the files ?
jmcdonald
Not sure what submit.cfg would have to do with it, but no, we don't have one set up.
The user does not own the folder in workarea, but is in a group that has share access (via Teamsite), and has full file permissions

Then you do not know what submit.cfg does
It can set the permissions of files and directories. Obviously you do not have write access to the directories
(since you cannot import a new file) but it does sound like you can edit and save a file in the WA.
For some reason, the directory you have is not giving you write permission. By changing
submit.cfg that will consistantly set permissions and ownership so this does not happen.

BTW, are you using AD for your user authentication and groups or local domain accounts? If you have access to the server and can browse using Windows Explorer, you might want to verify that the group has write access to your workarea and folders.

thanks for the advice - I'm holding off on submit.cfg...I don't want to dismiss your suggestion, but this problem is nagging me and that file import should be working.
Further testing shows that the same user, signed on as the same role, can import via CC Standard, and WebdeskPro

Can you provide a screen-shot of the CCPro UI when this problem occurs ? So we can get a sense of the context in which you are observing this behavior?

Well, okay - you're definitely in a workarea and at least have access to navigate into the workarea - so it's not a "simple" problem in that respect.
Unfortunately because it's not a "simple" problem - it makes it more difficult for anyone to help you remotely. You say the user has full access to the workarea - at this point we have to take your word for that - and even if that's true (and I have no reason to assume otherwise) then we'd have to think about the next thing for you to try and send the results back, etc., etc., etc.,
Chances are it will end up being something really simple once found - but finding it will probably best be done on-site. I'd suggest bringing someone in to help - even someone else within your organization - a "fresh set of eyes" to look and ask questions.

Previous question:

Are you using Active Directory or local domain accounts for your user authentication?

Yes, we're using active directory. Our servers are on 1 domain....the account belongs to that domain, not local to the server that Interwoven is installed on.

Hi,
Was wondering if you found the source of the problem. We too have been facing a similar issue. A restart of Teamsite fixes the problem, but have not figured out what is causing this.
Thanks
