Access is denied

Hi,

I have a CGI script that lists all the files that are in an edition.
The user can select all or some of the listed files for file list deployment.
When the user selects some of the DCRs within the list of files and hits "Deploy FileList" button, the following javascript error comes:

Access is denied.

This error comes on the command, "document.submitForm.submit();"

On hitting the button, a perl file is called that takes care of deployment.
The permissions on the called file are 777.

Please help me debug this error

The permissions are 777 - on a file? in an edition?
What about the permissions on the directory and all directories in the path leading to the file?
Who is the CGI script running as? Did you use iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi?

I think that javascript 'Access is denied' is more likely to relate to your javascript trying to access objects within a document served from a different host than it's own.

can you post the whole html form that is returned by your CGI script.

Hi,

The permissions I mentioned in my earlier post were that of the perl file that gets called when the user hits "Deploy Filelist" button.
The permissions on the directories and files within the edition are 444.
The CGI script is running as one of the TeamSite users whose role is that of a "master".
Yes, we are using iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi

Dude,

Read my post. 'Access is denied' in javascript doesn't usually relate to file permissions.

Hi,

I cannot post the HTML output of the CGI script. I cannot attach it as well since the size is roughly around 5 MB.

I am about to leave for the weekend, but if you post your form tag, plus the javascript function that document.submitForm.submit() is called in then maybe someone else will be able to figure it out.

Also, if you have firefox I would try access the script and when your problem occurs paste the output of the script debugger to this forum.

Well, the limit for devnet is 100k, so you're very close. Just remove a few irrelevant lines of code (comments, whitespace) and your zip should be under 100k np.

I'm interested in this thread and watching for some meaningful paste of code but I've seen this Javascript error and it's been slightly different every time for me... I'd bet that it has to do with any of: HTML not being tagged/entitied correctly thus **** off the Javascript DOM, some invalid action in the JS function, or perhaps server permissions relating to something in the JS function.

I haven't looked through the 5MB of HTML/JS but what jumped out at me was the following:


document.submitForm.action = formAction;
document.submitForm.submit();

This is found at around line 39. I assume the blue line is where the error is occuring? In the red line above, you are declaring the form action to "formAction". Where are you setting the value for this variable? I don't see it -- unless it's in some included JS file that I'm not seeing... why not state the form's method and action in the form tag? I think this is where your trouble is.

Hi,

formAction is passed as an argument to the JS function during the call.
The call occurs when the user hits "Deploy FileList" button.

What is the default METHOD though... if there even is one? I can see where you're defining the action but where are you defining the method (GET|POST)?

No method has been explicitely specified, so I guess, the default method that is "GET" is used.

I would suggest you use a relative path in this call:

formActionSubmit('/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi/sprint_com_deploymentDeploy.ipl');

and see if this makes a difference.

And also.....

try having a default action also.

e.g.

<form action="/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi/dummy.ipl"

so that when you modify the action js doesn't think you are trying to modify the host that the script is being posted to which is most likely why you are getting access denied.

Not in the attachment that you posted to this forum... have you changed your code since you attached it?
By relative I mean relative to the CGI that produces your form.

Hi,

I tried having a default action and also changing the form action to a relative URL but it still doesn't work.
Another interesting observation is that the error comes in case of the 1st edition of a branch but does not come for subsequent editions. Also, the number of files in question for 1st edition is somewhere around 6000-8000 but for subsequent editions will be somehere around 100 (maximum figure).

try giving the form METHOD="post" you may be exceeding the limit which IE places on GET URL's.
