How to recognize a ‘system cabinet’: /System, /Templates, /Resources etc

There are ‘system cabinets’: /System, /Templates, /Resources. webtop_userguide.pdf specifies these 3 ones; but does not specify full list of them. Is there a way to know: is given cabinet ‘system’ or no? I am writing an application whose users will definitely have no need to look at the ‘system cabinets’.

I have printed out properties of \System and compared them against properties of a user-created cabinet. But the only essential difference I see is owner_name (“documentum”). Can this be attribute of a ‘system cabinet’?

You can change owner_name attribute, so this wont be a good attribute to look at. I think you should be able to tell "system cabinets" by looking at the r_creator_name. It should reference the repository install owner.

OK; and can I suppose that if a cabinet has 'documentum' in its r_creator_name, this is system-created cabinet? Or the rule will be more complicated than just comparing with 'documentum' literal?

If your users are using Webtop I think you can just set the a_is_hidden attribute of the 'system' cabinets to TRUE and the cabinets will not be visible to the users. That will keep them out.

As long as you havent been logging in as 'documentum' and this is trully the install owner, then yes, cabinets whose r_creator_name='documentum' are cabinets that are created during repository creation.

When I was installing Documentum Developer Edition 6.6, I do not remember - was there a place where I had been asked to select the 'install owner'. Maybe this is something specific to full edition; and I do not see it in Developer Edition?

We normally create different sysadmin/superuser accts for "real" users. One thing I have learned in the past is that if you use install owner to login on regular basis and you lock out your account, you could potentially "lock out" the service that Documentum is running on.

No. There is no attribute that says this is a system created cabinet.

If so, can you please tell: do you know some more Cabinets like '/Templates' - ones that are pre-defined and are not intended to be a Default Folder of a user? The only Documentum Server I have seen to the moment is Developer Edition 6.6. Maybe there are some more such Cabinets in other editions/versions?

As I said in previous post, if you look at the r_creator_name, the "system" generated cabinets are created by install owner (or docbase owner) and are created around the same time as "/System".

You can check the Docbase log. At start up the server runs through a check of all the cabinets it expects to find. These are essentially system-defined cabinets.

Hi,

Building on what Johnny said about when the system generated cabinets are created you could use a query like this

select c.object_name,c.r_creator_name,c.r_creation_date from dm_cabinet c,dm_docbase_config d where datediff(day,d.r_creation_date,c.r_creation_date) < 0.02

to find those cabinets created at around the same time as or shortly after the repository config object. It seems to work on the systems I've tried it on.
