Custom Tags

I wanted to create custom tags to remove some unwanted content from the VFE field.

Any help in right direction will be appretiated.

The right way to go about developing a custom tag would probably be to read the perldoc for TeamSite: Smiley Tongue

T::iw_xml, and once you've really grokked it, do what it says. I didn't feel like taking the time to do that, so in ten minutes, here's what I did:

1. Create <iw-home>/iw-perl/site/lib/TeamSite/PT
2. Copy <iw-home>/iw-perl/vendor/lib/TeamSite/PT/iwov_emailmap.pm to <iw-home>/iw-perl/site/lib/TeamSite/PT/iw_foo.pm
3. Change the package declaration in that file.
4. Modify the start method. Now it looks like this:


sub start
{
    my ($this, $iw_parser, $start_string) = @_;

### if username is not defined in the PT ###

  $this->emit_perl("
         iwpt_output('This is a custom tag');
     ");
}

5. Put an <iw_foo> in a PT
6. Test and be very happy.

It looks like you can get the attributes of your custom tag with the get_attribute method, which is inherited from iw_xml. Then you can do whatever logic you need. If you look at the existing iw_****.pm files in vendor/lib/TeamSite/PT, those should give you some good ideas.

I also wanted to do the same thing...i followed the steps suggeted by u . By cud not get it working ...
I cud'nt see the value in tpl from my custom tag ....do we need to do something extra other than what is suggested by u ...
How I can figure out where i m wrong...

Hi...
In the progress of above task ..i m able to create a tag which is dispalying the value. in tpl we called the tag as <iw_foo name='dcr.x.y' />.....but now i want to replace some unwanted code from the field....i m taking the value of this field in side a perl module and trying to apply simple find and replace code inside that...
but when i m printing the value from iwpt_output..in side emit_perl it is giving the same value i entered into dcr...while using emit_text i m getting some junk code(i suppose addr of that field)...so in that way i m not able to replace the string...how can i achieve this
I m looking forward for ur help in this regard...

If you want help on your code - you need to post your code.
Also - you should not begin the name of custom tags with "iw_", consider that as "reserved name space". It would be better to prefix your custom tags with either the organizations name or abbreviation, or with something as simple as "custom_".

Good point. When I threw together my example, I wasn't sure if PTParser tried to find a matching perl module for any xml tag it encountered or only for ones beginning with a certain character string. That would be part of that whole "you probably ought to read the docs" thing. But where's the fun in that?
