Q on XCP designer and connecting to a documentum instance

Greetings and apologies for the lame/simple question, i hope its not.

I'm getting back to Documentum after a long time.

I was looking at documentation to set up connection from the laptop where the xcp designer is running to the Documentum instance.

I'm unable to comprehend as to what's the alternative to the traditional dmcl.ini setup for these new clients/tools from Documentum.

Can someone please provide the required steps associated with the new xCP designer and 7.1 PostgreSQL developer instance?

I did skim over the documentation but see no mention of the connectivity.

once again pardon my indulgence but if you can kindly point me to the documentation or material to explain the connectivity I would be greatly indebted.

Unlike tradition development clients , xcp designer does not need to connect to documentum for designing artifacts. The only time you need connection is when you use activities in workflow that need to verify the DQL you are using or fetch any model required for mapping in an activity and, that is accomplished through repository end point definition. After designing your artifacts when its time to deploy them and test , you point your designer to xMS agent. which is responsible to deploy your artifacts to repository and web archive to your web server. xMS agent is a web application deployed on a web server and is aware of which repository to deploy in addition to many other environment variables like app server, CTS, BPS etc.

1. Repository end point - dql etc

2. xMS agent

In XCPDesigner click on Help and search for End points or anything else you want to learn about development with designer. The help is very exhaustive and has all the concepts for developing artifacts.

Refer to -"EMC® Documentum® xCelerated Composition Platform, Version 2.x, Deployment Guide" chapter 3 and topic "Installing the xMS Agent" to install xMS agent.
