FTP into a shared workarea intermittently fails

Hi,

We have a common workarea which is shared by multiple users. Most users use FTP to bulk upload files into the workarea. In some cases (on Mac clients, they use BBEdit and configure BBEdits ftp to write).

Over the last few months, users have been reporting slowdowns (& failures) using this FTP. I wrote a small script that periodically logs into the FTP server, runs a 'cwd' and 'ls' on the same directory (workarea). I have a timeout failure rate of about 5%.

Would this failure rate be related to the number of users using FTP? Does Teamsite institute directory level locks which would prevent a user from running a 'cd' or 'ls' on that directory?

I would appreciate any leads / pointers in this regard. All of the above is pre-workflow & pre-submit/publish.

We use TS552 and for FTP- proFTP

On a possibly related note, during some Submits I see the following when with iwstat -c

0x1923f 0x1b vikrant 3.414 default EndSubmitFSE 0x0000210000000000002d9400
0x18153 0x1b - 82.437 workflow CallServerBack

Note the high duration times. Almost always when I see the following in iwstat, an operation like 'cd /iwmnt/default/main//WORKAREA/' waits
The command executes when I dont see the above in iwstat.
