Methods to change exsisting DCRs on adding a new field in DCT

Hi ,

Using TS 6.5 on Sol 5.8.

We have a DCT from which we have made 200 DCRs . Now the client asks us to add a new field to the existing DCT ( say field for expiry date )

They also wants that this new expiry date tag should be included in all the existing 200 DCRs.

What is the best way to do this ? One method is that we can go to each existing DCR and manually enter the value for expiry date ....

But i want to automate this process ...second method is that we add the tag and value of expiry date from backend in DCRs using a script ....

Is there any smarter way of acheiving this ?

If you add the field to the DCT - then all new DCRs will have it and any existing DCRs that are modified will have it.
If you/they feel it necessary to add the field to all pre-existing DCRs without manually editing them - then you should be able to script it fairly easily (take a look at the raw code of a pre-existing DCR without the field and a new DCR with the field - figure out how to get from A to B and write your script to do it)

just will add to what fish is saying.

- you do need to update your DCT, from what you are saying.
- with DCR modifications - if you DO need to insert that date field that is prepopulated, then you'd need to script the insertion. Otherwise, if you are prepared to wait till the DCR is opened and somebody manually edits it and enters that date, your DCRs do not need to be modified.
