convert HTML to UTF-8

OK, so I have a script to read a bunch of HTML and bring it into a template.

I can certainly regex < to < etc, but I would rather use the PM.

I have a variable called $html

I have

use Encode;
...
$octet = Encode::encode_utf8($html);

Both $octet and $html still have <strong> etc.

what am I doing wrong ? this should be easy.

OK so I used

$xml = HTML::Entities::encode($html, '<>&"\'');

instead

Are those a reasonable set of characters ?

Certainly reasonable to start with - you may want to add \200-\377 as well (as per the example in the perldoc) - or just try what you have until you find a problem - and then fix it as needed.
