Problem with Organization Model (Role connect to person)

Hello,

I would like to do an organization chart but I got some problems. You can connect the market with the organization. then you can connect the organization to a role or person but you cant connect a role with a person. that would make sence for me and that is what I am looking for. A model where I can show which person owns which role. Is that possible in Pro Vision? Can you say me how? Or an other idea. Thx.

  • Why you can't link:
Roles and persons are at the same level in the ProVision hierarchy. A person can associated to many roles and roles may have many persons associated to it, resulting in a "many" to "many" relationships.

Workaround: Create the role & person objects. Within the "role" property box, under the associations tab, select the "people" (persons) that should be associated to the role. The names of the people will then display in the Interpreter documentation.

  • Hello,

thank you for your information and tip. Yes I can connect persons to a role in the association boxes, that is okay.  But still you cant see it in the modell like visual with lines!? I would like to see it linked visual in the model with lines. Is there a solution? I would like not to do a double click on a role  and going to association. I would like to see it right a way.

    Is that possible?

    thx

  • Hi

To show any associations and links between objects try using a navigator model. I've provided a worked example based on a simple 'family' organisation as a published report in a word document (zipped).

I have had a little fun with doing something similar a year or so back - although it gets really difficult to maintain if you are at the person level in my experience.

To my thinking ideally the connection of a role to a person would be via a position (which you would need to be able to do if you wantered to actually import an actual organsiation structure from something like SAP). A person is assigned to a position in the organisation, that position is associated with a number of roles.
