Understanding iwuser : aliases

Hi!
we had a minor incident today with a user, that forced me to read more carefully than before, the manual on iwuser CLT.

However, I don't understand the manual, where it speaks of "aliases"... and particularly: adding aliases.

following is a partial quote from the 5.5.2 Solaris CLT manual.

-l nm[,nm...] Sets the list of aliases to nm,nm...
-la nm Adds name nm to list of aliases.
-ld nm Deletes name nm from list of aliases.

Anybody knows what this is about? What the effect is?

For instance, I am wondering:

our users have a "coded" unix-account-login so everywhere in TS they are referenced as e.g. X12345, not as Fred and James. ==> can we use "aliases" to instruct Teamsite to print the real names instead of these nonsensical logins ?

The aliases here are meant to be Operating system aliases,
that is a user id for a username and vice versa. Unfortunately, you cannot use that to have TS use friendly names.

Migrateduser

'Aliases' are used internally by TeamSite to keep track of mappings between user names and windows SID's or unix uid numbers. The 'alias' options on 'iwuser' are mainly used to repair problems in TeamSite caused by errors or conflicts involving Windows SID's or unix uid numbers.
