Task for Compressing PDFs?
jfincke
Our studio team produces two versions of PDFs - a high quality one that gets sent to the printer and lower quality one that we post online. Can anybody offer some guidance on writing a task to generate the lower quality version from the higher quality version?
TIA

What's the best source for documentation on tasks?

Hi
MediaBin Administrator Guide is the best source for documentation on tasks
But if you search at support site , you will find some Tech Note like
Setting Get Original as the Default Task Instead of None Task
Remove the (None) Task from MediaBin's Insertion Task Menu
etc..

I do not think you will be able to do that. Your other option would probably be to transform the original image and then encode it to PDF.
There is a task guide on support that you can download. It has good information.
MediaBin® Asset Server Task User’s Guide

The right document is MediaBin® Asset Server Task User’s Guide ,

If the PDF in question contains a single image (i.e., one page and no text), you will be able to scale the image and then encode as a PDF, but in general we do not have very sophisticated PDF authoring capabilities. We can retrieve a PDF as it was inserted or convert an Office Document to PDF but not, for example, change the compression ration of embedded images.
Also if the images are single page you might want to consider making the "low quality" preview a JPEG, whose quality can easily be adjusted.
Cheers,
