Static File with different folder path and placement path not getting saved in CI

In our CTD we have Content Select CCE which will allow user to select Static File. In the Content Instance, If selected Static File has same folder path and placement path, then it will be stored correctly. However, if the selected Static File has different folder path(/Test/Path/To/File.txt) and placement path(/web/Test/Path/To/File.txt), then on saving the CI it will not give any error and will save as usual but when you reopen the CI, that Content Select CCE has no file selected in it.

Has anyone come across any such issue? If so, any suggested workaround for this?

We are using Vignette 8.

it sounds like either the editor is manually changing the placement path? Normally the placement path should not be edited as this is used to guarantee that deployed static content is in the same place on deliver as it is on management stage.

Another possibility is that the CCE widget you use has been configured incorrectly. Check the General and Data Management tab of the Content Select CCE and see if there is any configuration that would cause the placement path to be difference from the folder path.

just to clarify the placement path is a contextual path used for rendering the static file. The folder path is used to determine the placement path (that is you will see portions of the placement path in the folder path (minus /Content which is the default root folder).

if placement path is getting changed somehow take a look at whether there are customizations on the CCE widget that are doing this or perhaps even a pre-persistance listener is involved?

Check VgnVCM-runtime logs at DEBUG level to see if there are any exceptions related to this action.

Is the Search Registration event being fired and is the search engine running ok? (check the AppConsole for warnings/errors in both system console and job console).

Which version ?

Are you using a CS widget configured to store placement paths or guids?

Try using a file widget instead if this is the case and let me know if it solves the issue

We are using V8.

Yes, we are using Content Select CCE which returns placement path and not GUID.

I tried testing it using File Widget and it worked as expected. Also could see that correct placment path was being sent as POST request parameter on saving the CI which enabled it to restore the value on re-opening the CI.
