Beginner question: web services?

Hi

If I need to get data into a DCR from a database what datum type should i use? Does the external class/service need to return XML? Can the XML then be styled in the Appearance XSL box?

I think I can use custom Java classes and the External element. Can I use an external web service?

How are you creating a DCR? If you are using a DCT for creating the DCR then may be you can consider use of Data Deploy.

If you are trying to update a dcr via a LS component, then you may use a external call to populate the DCR Fields.

I havent tried this though.

Kropotkin, your question is not very clear. Please xplain the question with your business requirement ..

External classes in Livesite returns xml and you can refer to them in your XSL box by using value of select tag.
