Hi All, Doeas any one upgraded/Migrated from Dcoumentum 6.7 (AIX/Oracle) to 16.4 (Windows/Oracle). Is Database export from 6.7 and Import into 16.4 envrionment will work or any other suggestion on migration approach? Thanks in Advance.
Hi Sreehan,
Migrating DB from 6.7 to 16.4 may not work properly, as there are multiple changes in the DB table level. I would suggest to go with 7.1 or 7.2 upgrade as intermediate step, then in-place upgrade to 16.4 to avoid any issues. Hope this helps:) Hari.
Thanks a lot for the response Hari. Could you also please suggest is db export and import into 7.2 environment will work because due to change in OS iam not sure we can perform inplace upgrade from 6.7 to 7.2 then 16.4.
or is it good to do inplace upgrade for 6.7 to 7.2 and DB export from 7.2 to 16.4. kinldy suggest.
Appreciate your response and help.
Both approaches of migrate+upgrade or inplace upgrade work with 7.x versions. After migrating the DB from 6.7 to 7.2, replace the host references and filestore location references, after that re-run the upgrade of docbase again using ServerConfiguration program to take care of the DB changes.
Thank you Hari. Iam just reitering the approch here just make sure that i understand it correctly Kinldy confirm. 1) Setup 7.2 docbase on windows equivalent to 6.7 bocbase and export/import the DB into 7.2 environment 2) Do the required DB changes 3) Inplace upgrade to 16.4 from 7.2.
appricate your valueble suggestions and i feel happy that this forum is really useful and helping a lot. Thanks again.
Little changes to the same steps, 1) Setup 7.2 docbase on windows equivalent to 6.7 bocbase and export/import the DB into 7.2 environment 2) Do the required DB changes, run docbase upgrade from 7.2 to 7.2, to have all the DB tables updated correctly. 3) Inplace upgrade to 16.4 from 7.2.
Hope this helps:) Hari.
Perfect..This helps me now . Thanks a lot for your great help and support:)
Hi Hari, Sorry Iam bringing this topic again. I need one small clarification related to DB Schema. I never did this activity earlier hence asking for these internal steps.
First do i need to setup a DB schema and import 6.7 DB than install the 7.2 docbase (Using existing Database) or I need to install 7.2 docbase first by selecting new Database user and import the 6.7 DB .
Also if possible, please requesting you to share the whitepaper or any document available to explain these upgrade steps.
thanks in advance.
The second approach is better i.e., Install 7.2 docbase first by selecting new Database user and import the 6.7 DB to this new DB server.
The steps as Copy Repository at page no: 83 in the Documentum Upgrade and Migration Guide. Here is the direct link to the same guide,https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/llisapi.dll/Open/69340293
Hi Sreehan, last year I have upgraded from 6.7 to 16.4 without any 7.2 install. Source env was Windows 2008, SQL 2008, target Win 2016, SQL 2016. Also did another one on Solaris, Oracle and Solaris and the Documentum upgrade went from 6.7 to 7.3. I've worked out the steps first in UAT however. So it is doable. No white paper, had some tech support especially on the Win/SQL server upgrade since I had to run some SQL commands once the dctm upgrade scripts just stalled. I don't know much about the db migration since those were done by the dba-s, /had enough on my plate/ the rest was my experience... Attila
