OpenDeploy Receiver Installer error

Hi Folks,

I am planning to upgrade OpenDeploy Receiver 6.0.1.0.0 Build 41869 to Open Deploy Receiver 7.1 version.

While launching the installer it throws error saying "install version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate"

Any idea why the installer is throwing this error?


Platform: Windows 2003 enterprise edition, 32 bit,SP2.

Few checks which will make the installer to determine an existing version.

Is your installed previous version OD server up and running?
Are your bin/sh files of previous OD still available?

Just in case if you want to try the final option of uninstalling old version there should be an executable to uninstall at location for ex: /usr/Interwoven/OpenDeployNG/install/iwinstallod

Make sure you backup your config files and any userlibs

Your environment is compatible as per OD 7.1 RN.

Please do check if your Install Shield configuration.

It sounds like someone moved, or removed the iwinstall directory (usually located at the same level as the OpenDeployNG folder (e.g.: ODHOME/../iw-install) - such that the installer cannot find the information it needs to verify the currently installed version - either that, or something messed up the registry.

If you cannot find an explicit uninstaller, you may have to go through the pains-taking process of cleaning up the registry manually - to remove all entries related to OpenDeploy, after which you may be able to run the [new] installer as an installation rather than an upgrade.

You might want to check with Support to see if they can provide any utilities to assist with the process.

There is no file named "iwinstallod" ODHOME/install/iwinstallod. And yes OpenDeploy is running and it has /bin folder.

@Ghoti: Yes there is iwinstall folder at the same level of ODHOME but strange thing is, it has got only one file "D:\Interwoven\iwinstall\private\config\installer.properties" and there are no sub folders or any other file.

Registry seems to be fine but again not sure.

What will be best idea to implement? Is it uninstalling OpenDeploy receiver by backing up the config files and then installing new OpenDeploy or any other solution?

Yep. you will need to remove what you have, use regedit to remove the OpenDeploy references.

Move the folder to a backup so you save teh configuration settings.

Someone removed something they should not have
