previewing .aspx files

Yes, please provide exact details, the complete error mesage etc. What all did you do to configure for aspx preview

I performed all of these steps

The following configurations are necessary to successfully virtualize content from aspx files on a TeamSite Server where the .NET Framework is also installed on the same server.
Details

1. Add the ASPNET user to the "TeamSite Web Preview" Group.
2. From within the IIS console, navigate to the Workarea (e.g. "\iw-mount\default\main\uam\WORKAREA\load")
3. Right-click on the Workarea and click on "Properties", Under "Application Settings" click on "Create"
4. Restart IIS.

If you are using Windows 2003 the following must also be done (until Bug 57146 has been fixed):

1.
If IIS was installed before you installed TeamSite then you need to delete the default website. Create a new one and configure it for anonymous access using the IIS IUSR_ user.
2.
Create a physical dummy directory "iwmountdummy" in the inetpub directory.
3.
Within the IIS Management console create a new virtual directory called "iw-mount" which points to the dummy directory from point 2. Anonymous access to this directory should be the TSIMP_ user.
4.
Create a new virtual directory within iw-mount pointing to the Y:\default directory.
5.
For the root directory, check the configuration of the defined application to ensure that at least the extensions ".aspx" points to the aspnet_isapi.dll. Further extensions pointing to this are asax, ascx, ashx, asmx & axd.
6.
Check in the Web Service Extensions that Active Server Pages and ASP.NET are enabled.
7.
You should now be able to run a simple ASPX. (just take a simple HTML page and rename it .asp/.aspx.

If you receive and error like "Access denied to 'Y:\default\main\WORKAREA\test, Failed to start monitoring file changes" then you need to check that all necessary parts of ASP.Net have the correct permissions as per Microsoft Knowledgebase articles 317955 & 316721. Interwoven KB article 53298 may also help to identify the problem.

The "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspnet_client" directory contains JavaScript files used by .NET, and is automatically installed with the framework. To enable the virtual system to locate this directory you may need to add a virtual directory at the root of the Workarea:

* From within the IIS console, navigate to the Workarea (e.g. "\iw-mount\default\main\uam\WORKAREA\load")
* Right-click on the Workarea; Select New > Virtual Directory
Enter "aspnet_client" as the Alias
* Enter "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspnet_client" for the Directory
* Use the default permissions

Did step 7 work ?

7. You should now be able to run a simple ASPX. (just take a simple HTML page and rename it .aspx).

Can you preview an HTML page after you made this change ?

as soon as i change the extension to .aspx it gives me HTTP 400 Bad Request
This error (HTTP 400 Bad Request) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the web server, but the webpage could not be found because of a problem with the address.

is your webserver configured for aspx ? Can you view aspx outside of TeamSite ?

Hi Siddin,

I believe, ASP.net also creates a local server group on your server something like IIS_something. Provide access to this group on the content you are trying to preview.

is your webserver configured for aspx ? Can you view aspx outside of TeamSite ?

Siddin - please check on this first.. If your IIS or webserver is not configured for ASP.net, nothing will work

Yes I have configured IIS for aspx, the box the files are sitting right now is not the developement box. when i try to open the .aspx files on the box the file in a bowser they open as text. There is a grp on the server called IIS worker process group, how do i ? allow access to content i am trying to preview????

Siddin - you need to add permissions for this group to your workarea and the permission will propogate to your files.. but before you do that, you need to be sure that this group is the group used by asp.net.

Second - did you create an IIS application on the workarea level or on the branch level in your IIS?

I would basically relate this issue more to asp.net configuration rather than Teamsite configuration

And BTW, when Andy stated, create a simple file on server and see if you can preview the file, he meant your webservice like IIS.

Did you search for the Microsoft Articles mentioned in the IWOV KB article. That may provide you some insight into your issue

we have virtual directories in IIS for each of the branches we have in teamsite. yes, i renamed a html file to .aspx but as soon as do that gives me a bad request message. I have gone thru the microsoft kb articles and applied what it suggests but still the same issue

Creat application on your workareas.. I think, branches would not work for your purpose. Try for one of the workareas and see if it works for you

sorry my bad actually we have workareas and branches of same name , so did not see where they pointed to and they actually point to workarea

Are you really running TeamSite and SharePoint on the same server?

Please show the workareas as seen under iw-mount. I have never tried creating Virtual Directories for workareas... some one who has may be of better help
