Handling inbound faxes

Hi there,

Is there an alternative to the SOAP push delivery mechanism for inbound faxes? Our customers are likely to be behind a firewall and unable to accept incoming HTTP requests. If you could provide details and documentation for alternative methods I'd be very grateful - a reply today would be much appreciated.

The standard way to handle inbound fax is via email.

If email doesn't work, then the other alternatives are HTTP (which, as you've indicated above), FTP, or SFTP.

Would FTP or SFTP work?

If none of these work, then the only other alternative would be for you to pull your inbound faxes via the API, but you would have to poll for new faxes periodically to see what's out there.

Thanks for the reply. FTP or SFTP might be an option, and pulling via the API might work too. Are these things I can test using our developer account? Can you link to the documentation?

The FTP option is a standard configuration setting which should be available to you via the fax2mail web site. Log into the web site and select "My Preferences -> Receive Preferences". Then choose the "Recipient Settings" tab, and check "Deliver Inbound Faxes to Additional Recipients".

If you then click "Show or modify additional recipients", you will be able to add a new FTP or SFTP destination.

If you have trouble getting the all to work, please contact your Sales Engineer for some help.

As for retrieving via the API, you would want to use the JobDocumentTransmit function. To figure out when to pull faxes, you would most likely need to use JobList.

I'm not sure I have been given a URL for the fax2mail website. Is this the same as the portal website?

I can't find a link for "My Preferences" anywhere.

It turns out that the myportal site will automatically "reconfigure" itself as the fax2mail web site depending on how you log in.

If you enter your Fax2Mail email address as the user ID at https://pt.myportal.premiereglobal.com/ (instead of using your user ID), then you will see the fax2mail "flavor" of the portal.
