The supplied Authenicate program gives error

Hi, I downloaded the "Authenticate" sample program from EasyLink. I compiled, ran it, and entered the following info that was given to me by a rep. When I hit the Authenticate button, I get an error in the Authenticate program. Even if the password was wrong (but it isn't), I would think I would get a valid message. Anyone have any ideas?

It looks like you are not a ble to connect to the URL. Try the URL in your browser. If you are using IE you will need to uncheck “Show friendly HTTP error messages”. You should see the following if you connect.

I ran the application myself and it worked fine. Even if your credetials are incorrect you would get an error message.

The XML looks better on the site, it did not translate well to the email.

I got the XML response exactly as you have it when I put the URL in IE.

When I step through the Authenticate program, I can see my login credientials in the Request object.

But then the Submit_Request object is defined and my credentials never go into it. You can see below in the highlighted part that Submit_Request has Null fields when passed to EM.Authenticate. I'm wondering if I have the right version of the Authenticate program. Does this look right as far as the current code?

Oh, I do see now that EM.RequestValue is set to Request prior to calling EM.Authenticate. But I'm still wondering what the problem is here since I still have the issue of the result coming back Null.

The URL is correct. The Submit_Request should be null. The credentials are in the EM. Take snapshot of that and one of Submit_Result after the call is made. Is it stepping into the Catch?

Add these two lines in the Catch. The message box will display the error message.

That means there is something not getting built right in the Submit. I have attached the submit code from mine that I just stepped through. Yours should be identical. If you can't find anything attach yours the same way so I can look at all of it.

Thanks... Mine is the same as yours except yours has some Response stuff commented out. I've attached the code.

By the way, what I'm really trying to do is just send faxes through EasyLink using your API. I was doing this Authenticate just as a first step. In the meantime, I tried using the API to send a fax to the test site. An email address is required, and I get the error "Send Fax Exception: User not registered". I don't want to go off on a tangeant, but maybe these two are related. Do you know if we (Netsmart) have a registered email account?

Comment out the two response lines, they are a remnant from a previous version. That should take care of current issue.

What do you mean by "An email address is required"? And where are you seeing that error message? Did you get a job number?

Your credentials are fine and your Profile settings look correct.

We have a program that needs to send a large number of faxes, so we want to send them through EasyLink. Our program would create each fax, then use your API call "SendFax" to send them. I downloaded the API from your website. I ran setup.exe to install this set of folders.

Then I ran the TestSendFax.exe passing in the parameters outlined in the "Parameters for SOAP SendFaxService.pdf". I've tried the credentials that were sent to me as the "e-mail" and "Password" (I've blocked them out in the screenshot), but each time I get the "User not registered" error. If I can get this working, I can start using the ELSManager.dll in my C# code.

What site did you download that from? That is not the same API that you were testing the Autheticate with. It points to a different Fax System, that is why your credentials are not working there. How did you get pointed in that direction?

The request for the API you were testing is JobSubmitRequest.

I probably got it wrong because I pointed myself in that direction! :-) Basically, I just looked around on the EasyLink website looking for an API that would send faxes. I didn't realize there were different API's. That was just one I came across.

I was given the "CSharp_Authenticate" program initially. I think my supervisor downloaded it. It uses EMsgAPIGen to do the Authenticate. It sounds like I should use that API instead. Now that I see that JobSubmitRequest is one of the methods in EMsgAPIGen, I will give it a try.

Tom, the 2.4 sample code for JobSubmitRequest makes a calls to outside routines called "ReadAndEncodedFile" and also "Set_Server_and_Proxy". Is that code somewhere?

Can't get past "Error in Parsing".

I copied the JobRequestSample code into the main project. I've populated the necessary fields. I'm just trying to fax a Text Document, which is Setup Document 3 in the code.

Use the submit in the else statement. If that does not wwork attach your submit code as a text file. Did you uncomment a lot of the code?

Tom, I just found that. Mine said 2007 instead of 2009.

Now I'm up to the point where the CSVlist is missing. I can try to figure that out. It looks like the program needs to supply a CSV list, so I will see what that is.

If you are not too far along with the 2.4 code you should go ahead and move to the latest 2.5 sample. It is fully tested and you submit to the same URL on the test system. A Production URL is available now. More info is available on the top left of any page, it contains the URL for the 2.5 manual. Adding here too:

Thanks Tom. In the CSV sample, the type should be "FAX" and not "VOICE" for sending faxes, right?

I will start using 2.5.

Also, another question. I haven't seen it in the example, but does a fax that is being sent have to exist as some type of file in a location (pdf, doc, text)? I'm asking because we have previously sent faxes that were purely XML. The XML was embedded in the fax send rather than pointing to a file. Is that an option with EasyLink or does it have to be a file?

Yes, the type should be FAX, and you want to put the fax number to be delivered to, not all 9's.

The example shows passing in a document in the XML, it can be Word, PDF, text, etc, as base64 encoded data. A list of supported types is in the manual, see Document type. It can be a single doc for all recipients, personlized via inserts, best practice, or a different doc for each one. You can also use stored docs, in the CFS, or your own URL. Many options here.

Tom, I've got everything set up and I'm using Option 3 to send text as a fax. The JobSubmit works (I'm using Sync), without an exception. But then I get to line where it's trying to return the job number and I get an exception because the JobID is null. Also, I am not seeing the fax go through to the number I indicated in the CSV file.

Tom, I had an extra comma at the end of my CSV list. When I removed that I got a job number back. I'm still not seeing the fax being sent, but at least I got the job number.
