Async - check job status

Hi,

If I want to use Async to send a fax, then send a JobDeliveryStatus message after a minute, do I still need to supply a location for EasyLink to send a status to? I understand that for Async, the idea is that EasyLink sends a status when it is completed, but I just want to check for it myself.

The use of Asynch always requires the location to send the response to. The response is for the Request that was made. The Status is NOT automatically sent for either mode, Asynch or Synch. It must be requested also. You must also be able to match up your request with the response by specifying a uniquie identifier in either the SubmitID or MessageID. You may not receive the response in the same order the requests are submitted. A good format for this in VB (C# very similar) is:

g_user("UserID").ToString & "_" & Guid.NewGuid().ToString() & "_" & String.Format("{0:yyyyMMdd_HH_mm_ss.ff}", Now)

The max length is 80 chars.

We tend to recommend using Synch. That way you receive the response for the request in the same submit. Therefore they are already matched.

OK, thanks. It looks like we can use Synch. The status (Status of 0) indicates that it was received successfully by EasyLink, not necessarily that the fax reached it's final destination, right? Is there a way to check if the fax was rejected for wrong number?

That is correct, the Staus of 0 in the JobSubmit Response means that the submit was successful only.

You can use the JobDeliveryStatusRequest to get the Status for the job itself. The first Status in the Response refers to the submit. You will need to look at the State Code. If there are errors it will show a gamma code for the particular error. See this post:

You should wait at least five minutes before doing the first request and if the job has not been sent/posted base your subsequent requests on your retry algo, which you can get from your Sales/PreSales Engineer.

If you are submitting a large number of jobs, you can use JobList or JobSummary. They may give all of the information you need. You can view the API Manual at the following URL:

Are you using the sample code? It would be best to be working with the new 2.5 version.

Yes, I'm working with the 2.5 sample code. Sending the fax and getting the initial response is working fine. I am only sending one fax at a time. Our system has a queue that will contain a small number of faxes, each going to a different destination. So every few minutes, the queue is checked and each fax is sent separately. Also every few minutes, we look to see if there are any faxes that need a status check and send requests for those.

I was already starting to the the JobDeliveryStatusRequest, but wanted to make sure it would have the info I need.
