sending a pdf document

Hi ,

I am trying to send a pdf document through the jobSubmit and I took a look at the example in C# which converts the pdf to a string and sets the docdatatype.Is that the only way to send the document on the jobSubmit.Is there a way to giove the path of the document etc or any other approach.

Please advice.

Yes there is.

This is a sample for a Word doc but the same can be done for a PDF file. Specify DocType as PDF. The file still needs to be encoded. txtWordDoc.Text is a field in a GUI form where the file was selected. The path and file name can be directly replaced by enclosing it in quotes.

Where do we pass in the path and does it automatically pick it up from that path and encode it?

Is there also a way to send in the URL of the file like file://<system path>

The ReadAndEncodedFile function can be found in the sample file at:

It can be used with cut and paste as is. The path and file name would have to be passed in as a parameter and stored in a variable, such as MyFileName. Then you would call:

File = ReadAndEncodedFile(MyFileName, true);

The FileStream method will retrieve the file.
As far as using a URL in the path, it depends on whether it is the local system or a remote system. Some of the MS calls no longer honor remote systems for security reasons. I have not tried it with the FileStream call, but have run into the issue with other file open methods. You would have to test and see.

You did not say if you were doing email or fax. If email and you use html as your body you can setup pull files from either your own URL, which would have to be open, or from our Customer File Store, which you would have to upload the document to before the JobSubmit, this may cause timing issues if you do the JobSubmit to soon. Thank you for the prompt response.That clarifies the options of implementing.I will try testing with the URL as well.I am doing a fax jobsubmit and only other option for that is adding in the CFS?

Use the second one with 2.5 in name. That is our new version. If you complete development and testing before official release there is a Production URL currently available. That is also the version currently running on the test system.

Note that if you have more than one document being passed in the first has to be specified as TreatmentType "body", following are "attachment". This is demenstrated in the sample. For a single document the TreatmentType defaults to "body".b

Hi,

I tried encoding and sending a pdf but i am getting back this error.I set the doctype to "PDF" and set the encoding to base64.When I send across a text file with the same client it is working fine.Any idea what could be the issue?Here is the message I got from support.

The job number listed above has been cancelled.

The document submitted for delivery cannot be
translated. Please verify that the
document is in a valid format, is not corrupt, password protected, macro
enabled or saved with an incorrect file extension (for example a Word document
saved with a PDF file extension).
