Workflow API in Java...

I've been working on a project trying populate the ListManagedStatus RecArray and the ListTaskStatus RecArray. My java program compiles and doesn't throw any errors. But when I try to access the values in each of those RecArrays I get nothing. Didgging a little deeper I found out that these recarrays were undefined. My question is, why can't I get any data into these recarrays? I've tried many approaches, all of which have failed. Has anyone had ANY experience with the workflow api?
