Using LAPI for equivalent of "Make News"

I have a product that delivers a continuous news feed to a specified folder. From there it is quite possible to upload these documents into LiveLink with LAPI. Unfortunately the news channels only accept text, not documents. But if I load the documents somewhere, then there is an interactive command "make news". Thats what I would like to automate. I can't see a LAPI subroutine for this. Any ideas ?
