Can we avoid a deleted item remaining searchable

We have iTrashcan installed but are experiencing a situation where deleted items go to the trash can but remain searchable on Livelink. In our case, this leaves the user with the ability to retrieve old documents or drawings that have been updated or replaced, thus leaving us in a compromising situation. Is there an option to the iTrashcan module that would remove deleted items from the indexing?

I'm not sure exactly how itrashcan works but I suspect is uses a unigue nodeid in which case you can use the opentext.ini command to exclude that node from the index. See technical tips #2244025, - How can we configure Livelink indexing to skip specific document or folder.
