Fetching a Word doc into browser .. No Way to Save as DOC?
Fred_Macondray_(NSNNUser2_(Delete)_2309487)
I've posted a Word form in LiveLink with the intention that employees will fetch it to complete it until the forms have all been converted into LiveLink forms. The problem is that when I fetch it, I get no dialog to Save or Open, it just opens into IE 5 with no ability to save the file. I'd rather the Fetch action initiate the Save or Open dialog. As it is now, user's will click Fetch, fill out the form in the browser and then find they cannot save the file to disk as a word document. How can I either prevent this behavior, or modify it so that user's can save a filled out Word Form from within IE 5.0?Thanks in Advance,Fred Macondraymailto:fred@nsn.com

Message from Hayden, David P. via eLink1. Exit IE52. In Windows Explorer, go to View | Options | File Types3. Find the DOC file type under "Microsoft Word Document"4. Select "Edit"5. Highlight "Open" (it will probably show bold as the default)6. Check "Confirm open after download"7. Exit "File Types"8. Reenter IE5Thanks,David Hayden-----Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: Development Discussion[mailto:development@elinkkc.opentext.com]Sent: Friday, September 01, 2000 2:44 PMTo: eLink RecipientSubject: Fetching a Word doc into browser .. Thank you, it worked like a charm :)BTW - Do you know if there is a way to modify IE to allow a document to be truly edited and saved as a DOC from there? It seems to me that's a feature MS has notably omitted from their browser enhancements. Thanks Again,Fred Macondray

Here's a registry file I created that causes Microsoft Word to open in a separate window. This is equivalent to unchecking the "browse in same window" box in Windows Explorer when IE4 and lower are installed. I don't know all the version details, but with NT SP4 and IE5, this check box goes away. The attached file works for Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Visio.Double-click the file and it modifies the registry.
