Implementation Extranet
Bax_Ruud
We're thinking about making our Livelink-intranet available for external users. However, I don't want to create a group of employees (1500) to mask certain information for external users. I believe this would cause a major performance issue !Does anyone have any ideas about what the best strategy would be to implement a Livelink-extranet.

I'm thinking about doing similar. At LivelinkUp2000 last month a compnay called MorningStar System were touting a module that is nearly complete (I think) for creating virtual companies on one Livelink instance. www.morningstarsystems.com.MCSPlus was the module. I'm currently looking into it.

I think it depends on how much you want the external users to use your Livelink. If you just want them to access a few objects, then you can control by permissions. Also modify the "Go To" box so they can't access somewhere else like "Search","Enterprise",etc.

My biggest problem with this is that anyone who adds content can allow Public Access to See/See Contents. At present I just check for visibility of material to my External users, but it is retrospective - it worries me.I have looked into modifying templete for the "Permission" page to remove the ability to grant any privileges to Public Access - fairly easy. The trouble is that you need Public Access at the topmost level to any users to login. You would then need a seperate Livelink server looking at the same database to administer Public Access on objects added at the top of the hierarchy.

I picked up a brochure at LivelinkUp2000 from PVA, where they advertise a Extranet User Restriction Module. From what I can gather, this is exactly the area of focus for this module. You can get the same brochure at
