Livelink Desktop (V9) - Popup for custom attribute

How do I get Livelink Desktop(v9) to display popup for a custom attribute. It displays popup for attribute type 10(LLIAPI.LLAttribute.StringField.StringPopup). The custom attribute is orphan of LLIAPI.LLAttribute.StringField.StringPopup. The popup is needed when searching and assigning category attribute value form Livelink Desktop.This attribute gets the values by database lookup. It is working fine from the web browser.I would appreciate if anyone could help.
