Performance Issues with LAPI updates

We have written a lot of LAPI code to interface with Livelink9 to perform bulk data changes to documents and their attributes. This all works fine but we have noticed problems with performance. The updates are automatically shown within Livelink, however when we requery the data via LAPI the updates have not been posted and this can take up to 5 minutes.Does anyone know how to speed up this LAPI refresh
