how do I get info out office documents into a LiveLink databasetable

I extended livelink 9.0.0.1 with an own databasetable.What I like to do now is when a user add a new excel-sheet (as a document or as a new nodetype), retrieve somehow certain celvalues out of that excel-sheet and update the database with these new values.Likewise for a word-document.Does anybody have an idea how I can fill in the somehow?
