System categories and attributes

Working with LL9 for almost half a year, I am still wondering why this product is such pain in the ...Could anybody provide me with the snippet of the code to create a system category (one you get from browsing system categories in admin.index) and add few attributes to it? I managed by massaging database create a system category (could not find any reasonable API), but attributes story of Livelink should be memorized in stone - how not to write the software. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.Regards,Shimon
