Setting Attribute Values Does Not Work

I have been trying to set the values of specific attributes in a category for a particluar document (node object). I follow the API documentation for Livelink 9, but cannot seem to set the values. It is easy enough to retrieve the current value, but the sets do not appear to work. Any suggestions?
