Search Button on our Intranet

Search Button on our IntranetWe want to place a search 'input box' and a search button on our Intranet -- end result is to bypass the Livelink search screen for our end users. We want simple search (defaults would be all words; no complexity). What is the best way to proceed with this? -Search API-Is there a way to use JSPs?-Is there anything available with XML?

Message from Mark Whittaker via eLinkYou could either use Search API or SQL search - I'd recommend Search API(better performance especially if you're querying substantial amounts of LL9attribute data). I have done a similar thing with ASPs and a VB ActiveX. TheASP instantiates and calls mathods within the ActiveX then formats theresults. I would think you could do similar with JSP and either aservlet/applet. I used the LAPI ApplyQuery function. One of the parametersto ApplyQuery is a where clause that allows you to do a simple search.Mark-----Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: Development Discussion[mailto:development@elinkkc.opentext.com]Sent: 11 June 2002 05:27To: eLink RecipientSubject: Search Button on our IntranetSearch Button on our IntranetPosted by AALAdmin on 06/10/2002 03:11 PMSearch Button on our IntranetWe want to place a search 'input box' and a search button on ourntranet -- end result is to bypass the Livelink search screen for our endusers. Message from Bax Ruud, F.C. via eLinkAnother option would be to take the html-source of the search-page (Fromhere expanded);include this in a own developed html-page using hidden layers. This own developed html-page could be placed as customview in the designatedfolder. You can then pass the values from the own developed html-page to theoriginal search-page.This requires some HTML-knowledge but works fine for us !!Regards,Ruud Bax - Oranjewoud> -----Oorspronkelijk bericht-----> Van: eLink Discussion: Development Discussion> [SMTP:development@elinkkc.opentext.com]> Verzonden: maandag 10 juni 2002 20:27> Aan: eLink Recipient> Onderwerp: Search Button on our Intranet> > Search Button on our Intranet> Posted by AALAdmin on 06/10/2002 03:11 PM> > Search Button on our Intranet> > We want to place a search 'input box' and a search button on our Intranet> -- end result is to bypass the Livelink search screen for our end users.> We want simple search (defaults would be all words; no complexity).> > What is the best way to proceed with this? > -Search API> -Is there a way to use JSPs?> -Is there anything available with XML?> > [To reply to this thread, use your normal e-mail reply function.]> > ============================================================> > Discussion: Development Discussion>

Message from Paul O'Hagan via eLinkRecognizing that having full control over the way the page looks to userswhen doing an advanced search, and having full control over the way the pagelooks to users when they get their results back is of great importance we'recurrently developing a great feature for you. Right now we're referring toit as func=search because that's exactly what it does. It allows you tosearch using any advanced functionality you want through a URL and returnthe results in XML format (but yes, it will support server side XSLT).Currently scheduled to ship in November 2002.Hope it helps!--P-----Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: Development Discussion[mailto:development@elinkkc.opentext.com]Sent: June 11, 2002 6:17 AMTo: eLink RecipientSubject: RE Search Button on our Intranet 2RE Search Button on our Intranet 2Posted by eLink on 06/11/2002 06:17 AMMessage from Bax Ruud, F.C. via eLinkAnother option would be to take the html-source of the search-page (Fromhere expanded);include this in a own developed html-page using hidden layers. Along this same topic...
I forgot to ask but, when you get the search results back as XML can you add a parameter to specify a stylesheet and have the Livelink XSL process it?
Thanks,

Message from Paul O'Hagan via eLinkHi Matt,I just love the Rush references...Anyway, the short answer is no. You'd have to post process the XMLyourself, we're not going to support server side XSLT immediately. Itotally recognize the need for this, but in order to ship the product in areasonable time and implement all the functionality it had to slip out of myrequirements document.Hope it helps!--P-----Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: Development Discussion[mailto:development@elinkkc.opentext.com]Sent: September 23, 2002 5:03 PMTo: eLink RecipientSubject: RE RE Is func=search still on target for 11/02?Message from Eidson Matthew W Contr AFFTC/ITASC via eLinkPaulAlong this same topic...I forgot to ask but, when you get the search results back as XML can you adda parameter to specify a style sheet and have the Livelink XSL process it?Thanks,Matt EidsonAFFTC/ITASCLivelink Integrator/DeveloperNetwork Systems AnalystTybrin CorporationOffice: 661-275-3704Mobile: 661-810-6091Nextel Direct Connect: 122*11*6004matthew.eidson@edwards.af.mil"You can do a lot in a lifetime, if you don't burn out too fast"- Neil Peart of Rush
