Message from chris meyer via eLinkTry to retrieve the Personal Workspace of the user. If the request fails,it's likely due to a bad login. chris----- Original Message -----From: "eLink Discussion: LAPI Discussion" To: "eLink Recipient" Sent: Friday, June 28, 2002 1:19 PMSubject: How to check user LoginId and Password for validity using Java LAPI> How to check user LoginId and Password for validity using Java LAPI> Posted by PATCOM01User2 on 06/28/2002 07:12 AM>> I need to check for the validity of the livelink user loginId and passwordusing Java LAPI. The only way to do this would be to try and actually connect to the server using the account information (ID & password) in question. If you running your LAPI application using and administrative account, you can always allocate another connection session to test the userid on. If it connects then it is valid, otherwise you can look at the error code and see if the password was wrong.There is no way to de-crypt the password in the database to verify the original password string.

Try to create a new LLSession with the username/password seems to be the only way - the undocumented ImpersonateUserEx(String, String) does not seem to take a username/password pair, and does not give a return code, and does not declare any Exceptions.A comprehensive list of Livelink Error codes and their meanings would take the guesswork out of the reason for the failure.Where does one find this list?

No guarantee on how it works, but here is a quick method that will check for validity (any Opentext experts have comments on how to clean up the session resources?).public boolean validateUser(String host, int port, String database, String username, String password) throws LLException { boolean retVal = false; LLSession session = null; try { session = new LLSession(host,port,database,username,password); if (session != null) { retVal = true; } } catch (Exception e) { throw new Exception("Undeclared Exception: " + e.getMessage()); } session = null; return retVal;}

Message from chris meyer via eLinkHi..I don't believe creating the session is enough to validate the connection.I believe you need to issue some fetch command on behalf of that user (EWS,PWS, etc), catch the exception, and base the success on that.chris----- Original Message -----From: "eLink Discussion: LAPI Discussion" To: "eLink Recipient" Sent: Tuesday, August 27, 2002 3:49 PMSubject: Simple validation code> Simple validation code> Posted by OpConUser3 on 08/27/2002 09:41 AM>> No guarantee on how it works, but here is a quick method that will checkfor validity (any Opentext experts have comments on how to clean up thesession resources?).>> public boolean validateUser(String host, int port, String database, Stringusername, String password) throws LLException {> boolean retVal = false;> LLSession session = null;> try {> session = new LLSession(host,port,database,username,password);> if (session != null) {> retVal = true;> }> } catch (Exception e) {> throw new Exception("Undeclared Exception: " + e.getMessage());> }> session = null;> return retVal;> }>>> [To reply to this thread, use your normal e-mail reply function.]>> ============================================================>> Topic: How to check user LoginId and Password for validity using JavaLAPI>

I'm using LLSession to test whether a user can enter the system. When I pass a bogus password it still creates a session object. I'm expecting a failure with an LLIO Exception.

Message from chris meyer via eLinkHi,The session object is created, but only when you try to retrieve informationfrom Livelink will the exception be thrown. Just retrieve the user'sPersonal Workspace (as an authentication test) and you'll get the exceptionyou require.chris----- Original Message -----From: "eLink Discussion: LAPI Discussion" To: "eLink Recipient" Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2002 8:31 PMSubject: Creating session object to test valid userid and password.> Creating session object to test valid userid and password.> Posted by LMJSFAdmin on 09/19/2002 02:23 PM>> I'm using LLSession to test whether a user can enter the system.
