What table/field indicates that Directory Services Authentication feature is active

I need to create a LiveReport that will report which users have and have not been synced up with Active Directory. When I look at the user who has been synced up I see the following message "Directory Services Authentication feature is active and has disabled Password functionality for users."

In our schema, the userdata column in kuaf contains either an assoc that looks like this A<1,?,'NTLM'='ntlm:hostname\\livelink'>, or double quotes ("). Both of these are sync'd users on our system. If it's blank, I think they are non-dir svcs synch'd users.If you use LDAP synchronization, I am not sure if the same value is stored in userdata column.
