Search Sort By Ranking Expression/Total hits help

Hello, I have to 2 search questions:1.) Is there a way via LAPI to return the total number of hits, like a user sees in Livelink if the opentext.ini file has been configured with "showTotalHits=RAW"?2.)Wondering if anyone could provide us in using the LL_SORTBYRANKINGEXPRESSION constant in our search queries. We are trying to get the results of our search via LAPI to return in the same order as they would if the search had been submitted through the LL UI interface. Our ApplyQuery call is as follows, where 'key' is the search term:LL_ApplyQuery(session, objectId, selectList, where clause, LL_SORTBYRANKINGEXPRESSION, ("\"" + key + "\"").c_str(), startAt, forHowMany, "LivelinkQueryLanguage", queryResults)This seems to work when the search expression is a simple one, i.e. "Java", but our results do not match those of Livelink's when the search term is more complex, i.e. "Java and ant". For those more complex searches, we do get the correct number of results when we use LL_SORTBYRELEVANCY, but the results aren't returned in the same order as Livelink returns them. If anyone can offer any advice on either of these questions it would be much appreciated.Thank you, Dawn

Hi Mike, Thanks for the reply. I tried passing the key is w/out first enclosing it in double quotes and I get an error - the LLSTATUS value is "80007e0", (no other values are returned when I try to parse a api error or error message from that value). Since my code had worked for 1 word searches, I wondered if there was an issue with enclosing other terms (the 'AND', for example) in quotes, or if I needed to do something to the whitespace in between the search terms. Your best bet is to turn on search logging todetermine what the problem might be. If that doesn't shed light on yourproblem, then let me know and I can take a look at the query that is causingthe problem for you. 1) To determine the number of results that were actually returned by the query, use the ValueGetLength function, which will indicate the length of the queryResults parameter.

Maybe I should have read a bit mor thourougly... I didn't had time to test it yet but on a second reading, what I understand is that it will tell you how many results you got on this particular search (so maximum being the goFor value)I'll try to test it and repost. After searching found this post. So did any one manage to get the total number of hits for a search. Cause lets say we need to only return 15 documents but we neeed to know the total number of hits. User through the Livelink frontend is able to know the total number of hits.
