Searching using LAPI and VB

Hi Can anyone provide some sample code, or a hint at how to search using an attribute of a category that has been defined within LiveLink?. Basically certain objects within LiveLink are going to be given a 'person' category, one of the attributes of this will be 'employee number'. A user should then be able to enter an employee number in a little VB app and find objects which match. I've got code working doing a basic search, however I can see how to specify that I wish to search on just one attribute.Cheers

What you need to retrieve or hardcode is the Attribute's region name. You can retrieve it dynamically using FetchCategoryVersion on the category followed by AttrGetInfo and access the RegionName value returned. It is usually something like attr_1234_1. Otherwise, you can simply hardcode the value in your application. You can find the region names in Livelink by going to the Admin Pages->Browse the System Object Volume->Enterprise Data Source Folder followed by Info->Regions on the Enterprise Search Manager.

Once you have the region name, you can use it to form LivelinkQueryLanguage queries for ApplyQuery. A simply query on nothing but the attribute region would look like ("attr_1234_1":"blah").

Thanks for this. Just after I posted I looked at the regions tab in the search manager and spotted the funny region name and it worked a treat.I think I might take a look at getting the name automatically to make the code more flexible and reusableCheers
