To the subscribers of the Development Discussion on the Open Text Knowledge Center,
The Java Modules Technology Preview release is available for download from the Open Text Preview Center at FirstLook!
We need your help to ensure that we resolve major problems with the Java Modules framework prior to its production release. We plan to include this Java Modules framework as a standard part of Livelink starting with the next major release -- planned for mid-2004.
This Java Modules Technology Preview is a module that can be installed in Livelink 9.1 SP3 using the standard module installation procedure. Once installed, it adds a Java server and a set of Java library ("jar") files containing the Livelink Java application framework. Java Modules extends your options for developing new applications and integrating other applications with Livelink. Developers can choose to develop a module in OScript or Java, based on the specific requirements of your project. A Java Module has the ability to:
- Create new node types, leaf, and container nodes
- Access Node, User, and Collaboration services
- Access third-party Java libraries
- Call external applications via RMI (such as EJBs) or Web Services
- Expose service-based interfaces to external applications (via RMI or Web Services)
- Contain OScript nodes and be contained by OScript containers
- Create user interfaces based on JSP, tag libraries, and reusable WebComponents
The Java Modules Technology Preview includes JavaDocs, a tutorial, a sample module, and the beta software for Livelink 9.1 SP3. The Java Modules Technology Preview has the following requirements:
- Windows 2000 or Windows XP development only server with Livelink 9.1 SP3 and Livelink SDK 9.1 SP3
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000
- Java 2 SDK version 1.4.2_02
- Apache Tomcat 4.1 (included)
- Java IDE, such as Eclipse 2.1
- Web Container Debugger, such as New Atlanta ServletExec Debugger 4.1
To access the beta software, you must agree to the attached Preview Center Beta license agreement by sending a message to me at mailto:wcm@opentext.com indicating that you agree to the terms of the agreement and including the name of your Knowledge Center account. If you do not have a Knowledge Center account, please request one from Open Text Customer Support.
Please post your feedback to the Java Modules Preview Discussion, which will be monitored by the product development team. Do not contact Open Text Customer Support with your issues, since this is beta software.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions.
Thanks,
-Bill
