what datatype is passed to a stored procedure?

HI,If I am passing a DATE via a report to a stored procedure in SQL Server, can someone please tell me what data type I should be passing into my stored procedure?Is it DATETIME?I am having trouble comparing a Date i am passing into my stored procedure with a date stored in Livelink..hope someone can help..
