How to get the workID

Hi there... Im trying to store a document into the Attachments folder in a workflow, and all that seems pretty straightforward, but all the samples that I have have hard coded workID and subwork ID's How do I get those from the system? I have the objectID and VolumeID of the workflow but not the workID or subwork...Using LAPI with C++???
