Embedding results of WebReport in a document?

I'm looking for a way to embed the results of a live report or web report into a MS Word document that i'm creating.Basically, we have data stored in Livelink. I want to generate some report tables about that data, then embed it in a Word document and add a bunch of text/discussion around it. Ideally, I'd like to be able to update the table as the data changes without having to copy/paste the report table back in.Can anyone suggest a technique for doing this?I've tried using the MS Word "IncludeText" field to **** the results of the URL to the web report, but the authentication for the session gets lost so I only get the livelink login page.I've tried a similar technique with WebDAV URL, but WebReports aren't available through webdav and Livereports just spit out the XML code for the SQL query.I'm stumped.Thanks!

Excel has the ability to extract LiveReports with a Web Query. And you can create a URL that will automatically log you into Livelink and run a LiveReport. Perhaps with a combination of Web Query and macro you could run the report and pull the data into a spreadsheet. This would be much easier than a word document, although you might subsequently embed the spreadsheet in your word file.

Here is a URL that will log in and run a report:

http://server.yourdomain.com/livelink/livelink.exe?func=LL.login&username=guest&password=guestpass&nexturl=\livelink\livelink.exe?func=ll&objId=193091&objAction=RunReport

Replace "server.yourdomain.com" with the address of your Livelink system, "guest" and "guestpass" with a valid user login / password on your system, and replace the objId with the object ID of your LiveReport.

Create a web query in Excel:

Data Menu -- Import External Data -- New Web Query -- then use a URL formatted like the one above.

Excel 2003 is especially easy to use for Web Queries -you can specify which table to import.

You'll need to write your own macros, but if you are successful in getting everything to work automatically, we'd love hear how you set it up.

This web query approach can also be used with WebReports which allows you additional flexibility around how the data appears in the spreadsheet. I'm not sure if using Word was a pre-requisite for this or if the text you mention is static, but you could consider creating the document using a WebReport report view by including all of the necessary text and just positioning the data within that 'document'. The output of this execution would basically be an html document. With WebReports 2.0.0 (to be released in a few weeks) you could also schedule this report to email the output document and or save it back to Livelink.Greg Petti

Thanks! This is (close to) perfect. It actually works reasonably well, with a couple caveats. What I did was the following:1. Create an excel spreadsheet2. Use Data->Import Data->New Web Query to create a query.3. Use a URL that includes the ¿func=LL.login&username=****&password=****¿4. Import the data into excel5. Create a Word document6. Use Insert->File (as link) to embed the excel sheet into Word. Use the WebDAV path to the Excel file.The "cons" of this approach are:* It requires an embedded password, which effectively becomes public. It's possible I could create a macro to ask for it each time. I'll have to look into it.* The query gets dynamically replaced each time you open up the document, potentially by the "NextURL" redirect. This means any time you re-open the doc, you have to re-enter the query.* It only works in Excel 2002 or later. Excel 2000 seemed to get confused by the redirect/NextURL thing and returned an empty dataset.* Note that it required a webDAV path in order to link the Excel file into Word. I don't know of a way to Link files together within Livelink.Overall, a pretty good solution. If I work any more details out, I'll add them on.Thanks again.

The data is going to be stored in livelink. So I need a way to extract a simple report table, then plug it inot a word document. WebReports 2.0.0 provides the ability to save a 'Snap Shot' of data back into Livelink as a rich text document so you could open it with Word directly. As per the previous reply, if you put it on a schedule you wouldn't even need to log back in to do the update.
