Help on NTLM

I am a novice when it comes to NTLM and livelink.We have two w2k servers with IIS5 9.1.0 sp3.Lately this has been happening.If I log onto my machine and type in the URL of my livelink app I get in unchallenged.But if I had the URL as a hyperlink( examples are outlook 2000 SR1 notification email,word, or powerpoint links containing the livelink URL ) I am presented with thechallenge authentication window.What causes this.I can work around this by adding my livelink URL to the trusted sites in IE6.0.Looks entirely happening only on embedded links and will not happen if I had a livelink browser session running in the background which I guess has already established a cookie with the server.Is this anyway related to the way microsoft treats embedded links ?.Will appreciate an answer .It happens on any platform w2k,win xp all client machines with IE 6.0 and has been working fine with livelink 9.10.sp3 for almost a year now
