VERIFY RIGHT TO VIEW AN OBJECT

Using the LAPI's, what would be the best way (or most efficient) to verify a right on an object given a login. I know you can use the "GetObjectRights" method on a document, but this only brings back the immediately assigned permissions. If the User is a part of a group that is a part of a group, then it becomes a bit more cumbersome. I would need to iterate through the memberships of the groups recursively. Is there a more direct method?
