Linking Nodes ( documents ) within Livelink
Abrahim_Noor_(abrahimnoor_-_(deleted))
Hi,I want to links nodes within LL. I was wondering if someone could guide me to the best way to approach this issue. I can think of two ways of achieving this - > 1) Updated the node information in the pExtendedData of the other node. [User permissions might be an issue for this approach.]2) When the my module is installed, it would create a new table. The table is later on populated by the document information based on some function menu selection or whatever. Is there another approach to this issue?Would appreciate any help. Thanks

Either of those approaches is fine. You have a point with regard to permissions, depending on the approach to making the cross-reference. One other question I always ask before doing something like this is how will you want to access the information later? If you are going to write reports against the information, it is best to go with the database table.Regards,Donna

Message from Alex Kowalenko via eLinkI tend to lean towards database tables for the reason Donna suggests. Notethat the "X-Reference" function, that is part of the Records Managementmodule, uses an additional table to store links. Since permissions are aproperty of the node itself, your link module should show links to onlythose nodes to which the current user has adequate permissions.-alex------Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: Development Discussion[mailto:development@elinkkc.opentext.com]Sent: Monday, July 05, 2004 8:05 PMTo: eLink RecipientSubject: Either of those approaches is fine.Either of those approaches is fine.Posted by Nalls, Donna on 07/05/2004 08:04 PMEither of those approaches is fine. You have a point with regard to permissions, depending on the approach tomaking the cross-reference.One other question I always ask before doing something like this is how willyou want to access the information later?
