Duplicating system input functionality outside of LiveReports

Hello, has anyone been able to duplicate the system input functionality to select a container for custom reports that were created outside of LiveReports? Specifically I need to create custom reports using a SQL backend and need to create a form that allows users to select a container, object type and date range with a resulting report on those parameters that runs agains the selected container down into subsequent folders/walking the heirarchy. I was able to achieve everything except the heirarchy piece in LiveReports. OT Tech support told me it couldn't be done so I am trying to create the same report from scratch without using LiveReports. Before I get started, I thought I would check here to see if anyone has some code and/or advice they would like to share. Thank you!

Hi Susan, I just completed a small little custom module that does something similar to your requirements. The module currently allows the user to select a container, walks the hierarchy (incl sub folders, project workspaces, CDs et.al) and calculates the container size. I tried installing this in our development environment which is running 9.1 SP-4 and when I call the request handler URL, I get a blank screen. I saw in the release notes that this module was written for version 9.2 but I thought I'd try anyway.
