Mapping "My Documents" to Personal Workspace

Greetings All,We are seeking to get users documents off of their client hardrives and into Livelink. The idea of mapping the user's MS Windows "My Documents" folder into their Livelink "Personal Workspace" is an intriguing consideration. Donna,Thanks for the reply, the email notification did not go through, so I was not aware. I found you reqonse under Personal/Notifications after checking today.I'm not so familiar with WebDav and how that could be utilized. Do you have experience in that area?I had considered some tie-in with Explorer, but am not sure how one would link Explorer and MyDocuments.Tx,Ken

All,This may already be clear, but just in case... What we are considering is mapping the MyDocuments folder to individual's Personal Workspaces. So that if a user is working in Word and saves to a folder in MyDocuments the file is placed in Livelink rather then the hard drive. This will allow users with roaming profiles, or that might be working from a remote location to still have access to their docuemnts. As well this will help to insure the data is properly backed up.So to recap...1. Can MyDocuments be mapped to Livelink Personal workspace?2. If this can be done, will it only support specific file types i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe? We would need to save any file type to MyDocuments.Best to you all &Thanks in advance,Ken Huie

The idea of mapping 'MyDocuments' to Livelink was so that Livelink would actually become the source where 'MyDocuments' are stored and therefore the files are backed up as they are apart of the Livelink system.Ken

Hi Ken,

In Doorways 9.2 it is possible to copy the external content into Livelink and also do a synchronization of the data.

This requires that the Doorways server has access to all the MyDocuments of the external server.

I don't know how easy it will be to let doorways automatically synchronize. For example once a day.

Even if that is not possible, people on a remote location can still synchronize the Doorways with their documents from the remote location (as long as their machine is up and running).

My Documents is a virtual disc on PC that depends on the users Profile is located in c:\Document .........\My Documents...Documents stored here we call A1My understanding is that you can set up so that those documents are synchronised with a server when the user is in the office. I like My documents and use it all the time in the standard way. Hans Idea with access to it from Livelink could be a way if you add some kind of searching....What is the idea of take away My documents1) Have all docs in one place2) Make it searchable3) get audit on / security .....Livelink Explorer could be nice but you need clients everywhereWEBDAV is cool used it a lot before but not know so much
